Manager of Tissue Services

Summary: 

The Manager of Tissue Services is responsible for day-to-day management of the Tissue Services leadership and department. The incumbent must possess industry experience and be able to collaborate throughout the organization to maximize donation. The Manager of Tissue Services must be able to lead a 24/7 operational team in multiple locations throughout the service area and be on-call. The Manager of Tissue Services must possess strong leadership skills and business acumen along with being an expert in industry standards. The incumbent should also possess skills to be able to grow the tissue program with experience in quality improvement. Lastly, they must be able to maintain strong departmental culture and can grow leaders and team members.  

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities: 

• Responsible for all day-to-day activities associated with the procurement and utilization of tissues for transplantation.  
• Works with the Director of Tissue Services to track performance metrics for each area of responsibility of the tissue recovery staff.  
• The Manager of Tissue Recovery will also function as an on-call resource as needed. 
• Assures that tissue recovery is done in compliance with all applicable regulatory necessary to assure safety of tissue and appropriate accreditations.  
• Responsible for the preparation for all inspections and supports periodic audits of functions to ensure ongoing compliance.  
• Assists in budget development for the Tissue Recovery department.  
• Works with the other departments to identify opportunities for increased donation, presentation of common integrated message, and improvement in donation authorization rate.  
• Develop and implement programs focused on continuous education and training of the recovery technicians. 
• Ensures tissue procurement staff are properly trained and competent to perform assigned duties and responsibilities.  
• Interacts with Quality Systems to ensure monitoring of activities related to tissue procurement including: chart record review, case oversight, technical decision-making, documentation, and customer satisfaction.  
• Participates in councils/committees supporting the advancement of the tissue banking industry. 
• Performs other duties as assigned. 

Compliance:  

• OSHA CATEGORY DEFINITION: Category 1 - The incumbent in this position has potential of occupational exposure. 
• The incumbent will have access to confidential material and is required to use discretion with this information and comply with STA Confidentiality policy. 

Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements: 

• Bachelor’s degree in a health science related field or a combination of formal education and experience in lieu of formal education requirements. equivalent experience required.   
• Minimum of 3 years of tissue recovery experience performing tissue recovery procedures required.  
• Minimum of 3 years of leadership experience to include recruiting, training and supervising staff preferred.  
• Valid Certified Tissue Bank Specialist (CTBS) certification required.  
• Knowledge of logistics, funeral home, and medical examiner relationships in an OPO/tissue recovery setting is required.  
• Understanding of An understanding of healthcare quality processes and process department improvement is required.  
• Experience with conducting education, administering training, and content development is required.  
• Strong leadership and business acumen is required.

• Excellent organizational and documentation skills are required.  
• Must communicate effectively with all personnel levels and represent the organization publicly. 
• Must be able to lift 60 pounds unassisted. 
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team is required. 
• Ability to cope with high levels of stress and able to handle a heavy workload. 
• Ability to be flexible in a dynamic work environment.
• Ability to travel in light and commercial aircraft or drive his/her personal auto in order to meet all job duties and responsibilities.
• Current Driver’s license required.
