Overview
The Groundskeeper 4 supports a variety of landscaping services, performing maintenance and repair duties for athletic fields, golf courses, campus landscapes, and surrounding properties. This role operates under the direction of a supervisor or master gardener and involves estimating and procuring materials, tools, and supplies, ensuring efficient and timely job completion. The position requires a one-year probationary period during which the employee must demonstrate competence across all seasons.

Hours: MON-FRI 6:00A-2:30PM

Principal Responsibilities

Required Education and Experience

High School diploma or equivalent.  1,950 work hours as a Groundskeeper LG3 (equivalent of one year).  Successful completion of probationary period.  Refer to "Master Gardener Program"  (MGP) for additional details.

Required License(s) or Certification(s)

Must possess driver’s license valid in the state of Connecticut; pass (70%) written and plant identification exam. Refer to "Master Gardener Program" (MGP) for additional details.

Required Skills and Abilities

1. Ability to read, write and follow written and verbal instruction; exhibits necessary  communication skills, verbal and written. 2. Ability to use technology such as computers, communication devises, equipment, and related software in support of required duties. 3. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. 4. Portrays excellent attention to detail and exemplary customer service skills and/or willingness to assist and/or work with others; must be able to interrelate with fellow employees to get the job done; must treat fellow employees, students, staff and visitors to the University with respect. 5. Demonstrated regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.

Physical Requirements

Works on ladders as required by the job which may be in excess of eight (8) feet Ability to climb and descend stairs. Frequent stooping, bending, kneeling, and/or squatting. Occasional sustained overhead work. Works outside in all types of weather and temperature. Moves both arms and shoulders in full and extended motion while working with tools and materials. Moves, lifts and/or carries equipment, tools and material of up to fifty (50) pounds without assistance up to shoulder height and up to seventy (70) pounds without assistance up to waist height. Drives motor vehicles and other equipment. Works Closely with a variety of trees, plant life, grass, and soils, etc. Ability to pull, push, and walk with equipment (lawn mowers, wheelbarrow, snow blowers, etc.) on uneven or sloped terrain.
