Counselor (On Site - University Center, MI)

Position Accountabilities and Essential Functions:

• Embed the College's mission and values throughout all responsibilities and work; and focus on student success as the guiding principle to informed decision-making.

• Provides individual and group counseling services to any interested student; is accessible and available to students to respond to their questions/concerns; identifies and recommends additional non- academic supports needed for marginalized populations on campus.
• Develops, plans, implements, monitors and assesses student mental health initiatives across the campus and online.
• Provides assistance in managing crisis situations and responding to campus trauma (such as death of a student or faculty member).
• Establishes and maintains the platform through which tele-mental health services are provided; administrates an online appointment request and tracking system for both in-person and tele-health settings.
• Provide clinical supervision, related documentation, and administrative oversight over counseling interns on an ongoing basis; works to build capacity of counseling availability and access for students.
• Responds to reports of student mental health issues, working with students to find resources that will help them persist and complete coursework.
• Design and deliver student success workshops focused on retention topics such as time management, test anxiety, stress management, and overcoming anxiety.
• Provide Career counseling for undecided students, utilizing appropriate assessment tools to support career exploration and decision-making
• Collaborates and communicates with existing internal and external support mechanisms to aid students.
• Promotes and provides mental health training to faculty and staff.
• Maintain confidential files to track and monitor student wellness and mental health concerns.
• Coordinates mental health awareness and/or substance use awareness and harm reduction efforts for the campus community; facilitates trainings to educate and empower students and staff.
• Actively participates in local and regional collaborative related to community mental health, substance use, poverty, etc.
• Implements the values of equity and inclusion in the development and delivery of service.
• Provides backup support for students pursuing a leave of absence, receiving accommodations, and/or who are experiencing basic needs insecurity as needed.  
• Collects and analyzes data; prepares periodic summaries and evaluative reports or documents, as required.
• Serves on committees and other designated ad hoc, college standing committees, and professional organizations.
• Supports and serves as a role model for our mission, vision, strategic and service initiatives. Adheres to the organization's policies and procedures, and compliance guidelines.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Maintain open and positive lines of communication with all members of the Delta College community. Maintain confidentiality.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of policies, procedures, best practices and research trends related to counseling for student success.
• Maintain accurate, comprehensive records related to student information, including individual and group session notes and student's intervention plans.
• Maintain knowledge of all Delta programs for purpose of career exploration and assessment.
• Participate in the process of regularly assessing and evaluating departmental practices and policies relative to student persistence and success.
• Utilize Career Discovery resources, computerized career assessment instruments and interpret results.
• Maintain internal CRM communications.
• Maintain high-levels of student satisfaction as measured by student retention, student satisfaction surveys, student graduation rates and graduation surveys.
• Follow campus and departmental procedures; per approval, make appropriate on and off campus referrals

Required Qualifications:

• Master's degree or equivalent knowledge and skills. Major(s) required: Counseling/Social Work.
• Limited professional mental health licensure with ability to attain full licensure within 18 months of hire required
• 1 – 3 years of position related experience.
• Computer skills including online mental health platforms, Titanium, virtual meeting applications, word processing and data entry, creation and management of spreadsheets, ability to use and/or learn Colleague, Maxient and/or other Enrollment Management software.
• Solution orientated; with strong problem solving and time management skills.
• Demonstrate a strong attention to detail and flexibility in adapting to change.
• Customer Focus: dedicated to student development and success, establish and maintain effective relationships with students and earn their trust and respect, exceptional counseling, coaching and mentoring skills.
• Ability to work with cross-departmental functions in a collaborative manner to resolve student challenges.

Additional Experiences Considered:

• Full professional mental health licensure, preferred
• 3-7 years of position related experience
• Ability to supervise Master's level counseling interns
• Experience working with diverse populations
