Point of Care Coordinator

Job Summary:

Demonstrate knowledge of Clinical Laboratory Quality Assurance Activities and Standards. Responsible for the oversight of the Point of Care Testing activities within the WMC Valhalla. Works with various departments to assure compliance to established policies and procedures. Position interacts with other WMC Health Network hospitals. The Point of Care Coordinator works under the direct supervision of the System Laboratory Director or their designee. This position exercises a degree of latitude in carrying out daily tasks with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities:

• Have an understanding of the principles of tests performed and working knowledge of instruments for which he/she is responsible for.
• Monitors quality control and quality assurance programs in accordance with established departmental policies and procedures and as required by licensing agencies (New York State Department of Health, Joint Commission).
• Serves as a resource to POC staff by assisting in the development of education programs, training, and competency assessment.
• Oversees the proficiency testing program for point of care testing.
• Assures all required instrument maintenance, validations, correlations are completed as scheduled.
• Assists in the process of instrument selection.
• Develops required policies and procedures.
• Keeps the Medical Directors and Laboratory System director informed of any issues or challenges related to point of care testing.
• Works well with point of care departments and serves as a liaison for the laboratory.
• Attends meetings, including potentially other WMC Health Network hospitals relating to point of care testing as assigned.
• Completes assignments in an efficient and effective manner.
• Keeps abreast with current progress in laboratory technology and instrumentation.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Experience:

Previous experience preferred.

Education:

Bachelor's degree in laboratory sciences or related degreerequired.

Licenses / Certifications:

A valid NYS Education Department License as a Clinical Laboratoy Technologist, National registration preferred (NCA/ASCP)
