| Description: The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication invites applications for the News & Record-Janice Bryant Howroyd Endowed Professor position, a 9-month, appointment at the rank of Full Professor. We are seeking an accomplished and notable candidate with expertise in either global communication, journalism, strategic communication, mass media, and/or new media; and with a focus on not only furthering their own research and publication in the discipline but also fostering research/collaborative efforts for the Department's faculty and students. The primary responsibilities for this position include teaching undergraduate level courses, conducting research, student mentoring and recruitment, curriculum development, conducting scholarly activities and all other activities required for tenure. Other responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, engaging in accreditation procedures, program assessment and service to the department, College and University as needed. Primary Function of Organizational Unit: The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication is housed within the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. It offers a Bachelor of Science degree with concentrations in Mass Media Production, Multimedia Journalism, and Public Relations, which are accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (ACEJMC). The Department has over 430 majors. The mission of the Department is to prepare students with high quality education necessary to succeed as professionals and critical thinkers and to become productive citizens of their communities, the nation and the world. We cultivate diversity, interdisciplinary learning, creativity, freedom of expression, mutual respect, ethical conduct, social responsibility, and expertise in journalism and mass communication. The College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences houses the Departments of Criminal Justice, English, History and Political Science, Journalism and Mass Communication, Liberal Studies, and Visual and Performing Arts. CAHSS is an academic unit that reports to the Office of the Provost/Division of Academic Affairs and enrolls more than 2,000 students and has more than 160 full-time faculty members. With an award-winning faculty, intensive research programs, and community-focused initiatives, North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University is the nation's largest historically black university with an enrollment of over 15,000 students. NC A&T is an 1890 land-grant, doctoral higher research institution and one of 17 constituent institutions of the University of North Carolina System. NC A&T has ranked third in the University of North Carolina System in sponsored research funding for more than a decade. NC A&T offers degree programs at the baccalaureate, master and doctoral levels. . Requirements: PhD in communication, journalism, mass media, strategic communication, or a Ph.D. in a closely related field with 18 graduate credit hours in the teaching discipline from an accredited institution. Additionally, an outstanding teaching record and research experience at the University level is also required. Preferred: Five or more years experience in graduate program development, curriculum development, grant writing, fundraising and assessment experience are preferred.
