Department Profile The mission of the Cerritos College Technology Division is to provide accessible, high-quality learning opportunities that prepare students for careers in trades and related technical fields. Programs emphasize hands-on, industry-aligned instruction that develops applied skills, technical knowledge, and problem-solving in real-world environments. The Division prepares students for workforce entry, career advancement, certificates of achievements, Associate Degrees, and lifelong learning while equipping them with the competencies required to succeed in rapidly evolving technical industries. The Dean provides leadership and administrative oversight for the departments within the Division, including Architecture, Automotive Mechanical Repair, Automotive Collision Repair, Cosmetology, Engineering Design Technology, Machine Tool Technology, Welding Technology, and Woodworking Technology. The Dean supervises full-time and part-time faculty as well as classified professionals and is responsible for supporting instructional quality, program development, facilities planning, and effective division operations. The Division maintains specialized laboratories, shops, and instructional spaces that reflect current industry standards, ensuring that students gain experience with relevant equipment, tools, and technologies in a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment. The Technology Division serves a diverse student population, including individuals with no prior experience as well as incumbent workers seeking to upgrade their skills or advance in their careers. Many programs offer career education certificates and degrees that lead directly to employment, while others support transfer pathways. The Division is committed to expanding access to high-quality career education and reducing barriers to entry and completion. Through strong engagement with regional employers, industry advisory committees, and workforce development initiatives, the Division ensures that its programs remain responsive to labor market demand and evolving industry practices. The Division actively participates in regional Strong Workforce efforts and employer partnerships to promote equitable access to career opportunities and economic mobility. The Technology Division collaborates closely with other instructional divisions, Student Services, Fiscal Services, Institutional Effectiveness, Research and Planning, and community partners to support student access, persistence, and completion. The Division contributes to college-wide initiatives including Guided Pathways, career education program review, accreditation, and strategic planning. The Division supports institutional efforts to improve student outcomes and close equity gaps through clear program pathways, culturally responsive practices, and integrated student support services. The Division seeks a Dean who will provide strong, practical leadership and actively engage in supporting the work of its departments. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to shared governance, equity-minded practices, and continuous program improvement. Experience with workforce development, industry partnerships, facilities and equipment planning, and grant-funded initiatives that support career education programs is highly desirable. Summary Plans, supervises, assesses and evaluates instructional programs for an academic division. Plans, develops and evaluates curriculum, programs, and services that meet the needs of a highly diverse urban student population. Oversees the planning, supervision, assessment and evaluation of instructional programs, including their services, personnel, interagency reports and contacts, and budget. The position also provides highly responsible and complex administrative support to the Vice President, Academic Affairs. Distinguishing Career Features The Dean of Technology reports to the Vice President, Academic Affairs and is responsible for integrating and providing academic and administrative services to a diverse student population. This position requires a demonstrated ability to direct the activities of an academic division and its related functions and services, to provide leadership over curriculum, faculty and staff, and offer excellence in delivering instructional programs. Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications for Education and Experience Requires a master's degree preferably in one of the disciplines of the division, two years of full-time teaching experience or the equivalent, preferably at the community college level, and one year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrative assignment. Understanding of and sensitivity to meeting the needs of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic background of the student, community, and employee population. May require a valid driver's license. Working Conditions Work is performed indoors where minimal safety considerations exist. Salary/Fringe Benefits Grade 42 on District Management Salary Schedule ($16,233 - $20,374/month). Health and welfare benefits include District contribution for medical/dental/vision benefits and employee life insurance ($50,000). (Cash in lieu option available on medical insurance.) Participation in the Public Employee's Retirement System that is also integrated with Social Security or State Teacher's Retirement System. 22 days annual vacation. An annual stipend of $4,069 shall be provided to management employees with an earned doctorate degree. Selection Procedure Following the closing date, application materials will be evaluated by a selection committee. Candidates selected for further consideration will be limited to those applicants in the competitive group who best meet the qualifications for the position. Interviews will then be conducted by the selection committee, and finalists will be recommended for further consideration by the President-Superintendent for final selection and recommendation for employment. The selection process may also include practical exercises (i.e., teaching demonstration and/or other written, technical, manipulative, or simulation exercises) to evaluate candidates' qualifications. Conditions of Employment This is a full-time 12-calendar month academic manager position. Employment is to be effective as soon as possible following completion of the selection process. Individual who is offered employment shall be required to obtain fingerprints for a criminal history clearance through the State Department of Justice and remit the required fee for processing the fingerprints, Federal Bureau of Investigation (no fee if obtained at Cerritos College Campus Police Station), produce an original social security card, and submit negative TB test results (must be within the past four years or within the last 60 days if not previously employed in a school district in California) before employment.
