This position assists the pharmacist with preparing and dispensing medications, inventory management, pharmacy billing, customer service, and regulatory compliance. This role accurately responds to prescription dispensing requests, coordinates medication access and adherence, prepares medications for pharmacist review/check, performs claim adjudication, and processes customer account reconciliation. Other expectations include facilitating prior authorization and appeals processes, as well as patient management program operations. - Dispenses medications accurately and efficiently.
- Responsible for in-depth understanding of employee prescription plan; effectively articulates benefit determination details to providers and members in a way that is easily understood.
- Trains new hires to the department, ensuring medication filling, packing and shipping guidelines are followed and provides ongoing support.
- Monitors patient health and progress to optimize treatment outcomes.
- Processes claims adjudication and copay assistance billing for new prescription orders and refill requests, ensuring appropriate National Drug Code selection and shipping method are selected at the time of dispense.
- Contacts prescribers’ office regarding clarification on missing prescription information and/or prescription coverage details including prior authorization requirements, keeping the patient informed on any delays in processing time.
- Actively performs all pharmacy technician functions and maintains active proficiency in pharmacy specific computer systems and operational programs. Supports the management of medication therapy to ensure safe and effective use of medications.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: • Strong verbal and written communication, organizational, problem-solving and customer service skills [Required] • Flexibility and willingness to adapt to changes as necessary [Required] • Ability to interact constructively with supervisors, peers, and external customers [Required] • Ability to follow direction from formal management personnel and work well under direct supervision of a pharmacist [Required] • Ability to identify, follow up and resolve discrepancies; assist in resolving pharmacy operational or program issues [Required] • Ability to keep accurate and complete records [Required] • Knowledge of medical terminology and vast understanding of mathematical principles to perform pharmaceutical calculations [Required] • Knowledge of third-party pharmacy insurance providers and claims processing [Required] • Knowledge of Federal and State laws governing the practice of pharmacy and delegation of responsibilities including which tasks may only be performed by a licensed Pharmacist [Required] • Moderate proficiency in MS Office: Word, Excel, and Outlook [Required] • Ability to teach pharmacy technician students [Preferred]
Education: • Associate [Preferred] • High School Grad or Equiv [Required]
Field of Study: • in physical science, business or healthcare related field
Work Experience: • 3+ of pharmacy technician experience, in a retail pharmacy, mail-order pharmacy, central fill or hospital setting [Required] • Pharmacy specialty experience [Preferred] • Previous experience in a managed healthcare organization, medical insurance company, pharmacy benefit management or other healthcare related entity [Preferred]
