| Do Great Things! Durham Technical Community College is hiring an End User Systems Administrator in the Information Technology Services Department. This individual participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure. This individual ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to industry best practices, DTCC values and goals, and regulatory requirements, enabling staff, faculty, and students. Systems Engineering/Provisioning: - Engineering of EUSE-related solutions for various project and operational needs.
- Install new / rebuild existing servers and configure hardware (physical), peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.
- Install and configure systems to support DTCC infrastructure applications.
- Install and maintain all Windows/VMware/Hyper-V and SAN system software, such as Operating System, device drivers, and firmware.
- Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures.
- Develop and maintain Hardware and Software standards.
- Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks with regards to End User systems. Identify approaches that leverage resources and provide economies of scale.
Operations and Support: - Lead by example as a team player, providing input, guidance and assistance whenever possible to enhance the departments' collective ability to manage its goals and service delivery objectives.
- Exercise discretion, sensitivity and appropriate confidentiality with respect to IT domain administration and policy enforcement; including security incident response, and the identification of existing or potential security gaps.
- Repair and recover from hardware or software failures and coordinate and communicate with impacted areas.
- ITS Liaison with Campus Safety and College Police on management of Punch Alert infrastructure.
- ITS Liaison with Park Place Technology Support.
- Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all on premise hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs, most notably backups.
- Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions.
- Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, and media is recycled and sent off site as necessary.
- Perform regular file archival and purge as necessary.
- Set up, change, and delete Users and Groups as required to control access to system resources. Set up file permissions as required controlling access to specific files and directories.
- Provide Tier III/other support request from various constituencies. Investigate, analyze and troubleshoot issues.
- Supports the division in controlling expenses; provides input for budgeting infrastructure needs.
- Responds to all requests according to departmental standards.
Maintenance: - Communicate planned maintenance activities within College Technology Services in advance: include relevant details, rollback options, anticipated results and potential end-user impacts.
- Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure / add new services as necessary. Tests changes comprehensively so that revisits are minimal; reviews all work for accuracy before submission.
- Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required. Configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required.
- Upgrade and configure system software that supports DTCC infrastructure applications and other Management applications per project or operational needs.
- Advises Manager of potential problems, requirements for expanded services, and status of current systems on an ongoing basis.
- Provide management with performance and measurement statistics for planning and reporting purposes.
- Maintain operational, configuration, or other procedures.
- Maintain data center environmental and monitoring equipment in support of on-premise systems.
Professional Development: - Maintain knowledge/skills in server administration, storage area networks, database administration and security best practices, tools and procedures through active participation in seminars, conferences, and other training opportunities.
