Overview The Asian American Cultural Center seeks a student-centered, highly motivated professional to assist in the implementation of programs and services that support student success and facilitate intercultural engagement throughout the campus community. The Assistant Director will help develop and execute the center’s strategic planning, design and implement program evaluation and reporting, and will provide general management and supervision at the center to ensure the center’s smooth daily operations. The Assistant Director will also collaborate with campus and community partners to support the missions of the center, the Yale College Dean’s Office, and Yale University. This position requires energy, strong organizational and leadership skills, experience in creating and implementing culturally affirming programming and intercultural education for the university community. The position also requires effective communication skills to form critical collaborations across divisions and with faculty, staff and community partners to manage and advocate for students’ needs and concerns. Required Skills and Abilities 1. Proven experience effectively supervising graduate assistants and/or undergraduate students and coordinating strong campus programs. 2. Demonstrated success in program planning and implementation, student supervision and advising, and assessment and evaluation. 3. Proven ability to work independently as well as a committee member and a member of teams. Strong interpersonal and group facilitation skills. 4. Strong planning and organization skills. Ability to work some nights and weekends. 5. Knowledge of student development and best practices in student life in highly selective academic environments. Ability to engage well with all individuals. Preferred Education and Experience 1. A master’s degree with 4 years of professional experience in higher education and student affairs or a related field with an equivalent combination of education and experience. Principal Responsibilities 1. Work with the Director in strategic planning, financial management, program assessment and departmental reporting. 2. Provide day-to-day management of the center including the supervision, development and evaluation of center’s student staff (comprised of graduate and undergraduate assistants and Peer Liaisons). 3. Coordinate the center’s signature programs and annual traditions (e.g Staff training and retreats, Opening Days, freshman orientation, Family Weekend, heritage months, academic programs, Bulldog Days and Commencement activities) and work collaboratively with the other cultural centers and campus resources to create a culturally inclusive environment at the center and across the university. 4. Provide leadership within the center in the absence of the Director and serve as an advocate for the center and campus community in the areas of intercultural education and diversity. 5. Provide support for the center’s various student organizations and to individual students with a special attention to populations such as Graduate and Professional School students, First Generation, Pell-eligible, international and multiracial students. 6. Responsible for overseeing overall programming of Center and aligning it with Center’s and University’s mission. 7. Manage relationships with faculty, area studies councils, academic departments and programs to further the academic mission of the Cultural Center, formulate student support and mentoring services and academically geared programming; and other needs as determined by the Dean. 8. Build upon existing student-alumni programs of the Center, provide support for annual reunions and special events for alumni. 9. Liaise with facilities, and provide logistical support for the Center’s operations and Dean. 10. Provide support as needed to other Centers, University initiatives, and departments, including crisis management. 11.
