Mark Day School seeks a collaborative, innovative educator with a passion for teaching math to middle school students. Students complete Algebra 1 alongside mathematical thinking skills over a two-year program in grades seven and eight. We offer leveled Algebra sections, including intentional differentiation and an enriched pathway for extra challenge offered in every math class, providing flexible access to extended challenge opportunities to all students. 8th graders also have the option to enroll in Geometry as a second mathematics course for additional acceleration as they prepare for high school. 

Graduates leave Mark Day School well prepared for advanced coursework in their first year at area independent and public high schools. Students learn to apply creative mathematical problem-solving in both theoretical and real-world contexts, persevere in solving novel problems by employing a variety of mathematical tools and strategies, communicate and critique mathematical thinking and reasoning, and collect and analyze data.

Opportunities and Responsibilities

• Teach one section of 8th Grade Algebra and one section of Geometry. Geometry is a blended model of independent study and in-person classes. 
• Challenge all students with high academic and behavioral expectations while maintaining a climate of responsibility, safety, kindness, enthusiasm, and fun.
• Differentiate instruction using the Enriched Pathway to challenge every learner.
• Provide constructive, timely feedback that fosters a growth mindset. 
• Model personal standards of excellence: warmth, clarity of expectations, consistency, and accountability.
• Participate fully in a learning community committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
• Employ equitable and culturally responsive teaching practices. 
• Collaborate regularly with 7th and 8th grade math colleagues.
• Engage in ongoing professional development.
• Form supportive and responsive relationships with students and families.
• Build a strong, positive classroom community in which students advocate for themselves and others.
• Use school technologies to enhance student learning, faculty collaboration, and responsive communication.
• Work with learning specialists, counselors, and parents when necessary to design differentiated programs for students who require specialized support.
• Collaborate with colleagues to carry forward major project initiatives in the cross-disciplinary literacies as well as enhance the students’ overall experience.
• Observe, evaluate, encourage, and monitor students’ academic and social development and progress.
• Communicate proactively and regularly with students, parents, and colleagues regarding students’ progress and needs.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution 
• Relevant teaching experience with a minimum of two years preferred
• Relevant subject area knowledge
• Proven track record of working effectively to advance diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging
• Strong skills in curriculum design, differentiated instruction, initiative, follow-through, organization, collaboration, and communication

Compensation and Salary Range

Mark Day School places faculty on a published internal salary scale with steps based on years of experience in education. The salary range for this part-time position is $22,500-$47,400, depending on experience.
