This position serves as a health care interpreter for our patients and staff who are in need of language services. You'll work in a dynamic environment in a medical setting with new challenges every single day and work alongside a collaborative team of other Interpreters with diverse backgrounds. As the Interpreter, you will convey health care information between monolingual speakers while complying with all Interpreter Services and Michigan Medicine policies and procedures. You will follow all aspects of confidentiality set forth by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) requirements regarding patient confidentiality. You will need to travel within our main hospital and its satellite locations including those outside of Washtenaw County. This will require driving to these locations and a significant amount of walking within the Michigan Medicine Health System buildings. Physical Requirements
Flexibility is required, including occasional early morning in-person appointments (starting as early as 7:00 a.m.) or later afternoon appointments (staying as late as 7:00pm). This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment. Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third-party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses. In addition to the screenings indicated above under Michigan law, a criminal history check including fingerprinting is required as a condition of transfer or employment for this position.
