| Western Kentucky University, a member of Conference USA and a Football Bowl Subdivision (I-A) NCAA member institution, seeks to hire an individual for the position of Associate Athletic Trainer for Men’s Basketball & Men’s Golf. This is a 12-month, full-time position. This position will report to the Sr Executive Director – Sports Medicine & Student-Athlete Welfare. Applicants must have a commitment to and responsibility for adhering to all rules and regulations of WKU, Conference USA and the NCAA. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: The following duties are customary for this position, but are not to be construed as all-inclusive. Duties may be added, deleted, and assigned based on management discretion and institutional needs. - Provide prevention, injury assessment, immediate medical care, treatment, conditioning, medical referrals and rehabilitation of athletic-related injuries and illnesses
- Provide coverage at all Men’s Basketball events including practices, conditioning, and contests as well as travel with the team to all away contests
- Provide medical care for Men’s golf team and cover any home events as directed
- Responsible for coordinating and scheduling appropriate physician referrals for student-athletes to determine their ability to practice and compete
- Create a safe playing environment by monitoring and controlling environmental risks
- File all necessary reports associated with athletic injuries and/or incidents
- Maintain a daily treatment log for all student-athletes
- Work in conjunction with the strength and conditioning staff to ensure safety in the design and implementation of fitness, nutrition and conditioning programs customized to meet individual student-athlete needs
- Manage and maintain an effective and efficient athletic training room
- Communicate with student-athletes, staff, medical providers, coaches, parents & administration in accordance with NATA, WKU & HIPPA guidelines
- Assist with following rules of the NCAA, Conference USA, and Western Kentucky University
- Other duties as assigned by the Sr Executive Director – Sports Medicine & Student-Athlete Welfare
Knowledge and Skills Considered Essential for Success: - Experience working as an athletic trainer with the sport of Basketball
