| Position Overview: | The Business Services Specialist plays a pivotal role in the operational success and financial integrity of the Maryland Technology Internship Program (MTIP). This position supports the management of state funds to provide employer reimbursements, oversees program expenditures, and executes administrative duties to ensure smooth operation of the MTIP. |

| Responsibilities: | - Manage the tracking of state funds used for intern wage reimbursements across hundreds of participating Maryland companies.
- Audit reimbursement requests from participating businesses and state and local agencies, ensuring all supporting payroll documentation meets program requirements.
- Prepare monthly budget reports to ensure expenditure aligns with the fiscal year’s budget.
- Analyze historical spending data to project future funding needs and assist the Program Director in annual budget planning.
- Act as a liaison for participating companies and state and local agencies regarding financial inquiries and administrative onboarding.
- Attend MTIP related events, including representing the program at conferences and other relevant events.
- Assist with team meetings, staff development days, and registration for events and conferences.
- Manage supply inventory, placing orders as needed.
- Travel to events to meet prospective employers to increase program engagement.
- Other duties as assigned.
- In-state travel by car is required.
This position will require occasional travel and evening hours for program and/or networking events. This position will have a hybrid work arrangement, with a combination of assigned days to work: on UMBC’s main campus, an on-site location within Baltimore City, and work from home. |
| Required Minimum Qualifications: | - High School Diploma or GED
- 6 years progressively responsible experience in a combination of budgeting, accounting, purchasing and personnel work.
Note: Additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience. |
| Preferred Qualifications: | - Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Experience in budget management, preferably within higher education or state government contracting.

| Salary: | Pay Range 11 - minimum: $23.77 per hour - maximum: $31.49 per hour based on the University System of Maryland (USM) Pay Program. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, Memorandum of Understanding, USM Board of Regent policies, internal equity, budget and qualifications and experience. Most salary offers will be close to the minimum part of the range. The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. |
