Overview In 1971, Yale University established Yale Health to provide health services to its facility, staff and students through a multidisciplinary health maintenance organization located on campus. Yale Health has more than 49,000 members including students, staff, faculty and their families who come from every state in the country and almost every country in the world. With over 50 years of service to the Yale community, our state-of-the-art facility at 55 Lock Street, is where our members receive most of their care from our 150+ providers. It is a 144,000 square foot medical facility with over 90 exam rooms, an Acute Care Department, a 15-bed inpatient facility with two negative pressure rooms, a diagnostic imaging suite including MR and CT scan, x-ray and ultrasound and a full-service retail pharmacy. Under the direction of the Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO), the Clinical Informatics Training Specialist leads training and education initiatives related to Epic and clinical information systems at Yale Health. This position is responsible for designing, developing, delivering, and evaluating comprehensive training programs that ensure clinical staff, providers, and support personnel can effectively utilize Epic and related clinical technologies to support patient care. The Training Specialist owns the local training curriculum, coordinates new employee Epic onboarding, and manages the Epic Champion program. This position collaborates closely with the Senior Clinical Informatics Analyst and Clinical Informatics Analyst, who provide subject matter expertise and support training delivery efforts. The Training Specialist serves as the primary point of contact for all Epic training needs across the organization and ensures training content accurately reflects current system configurations and clinical workflows. This position provides functional guidance to Epic Champions and coordinates closely with department managers on training schedules and competency requirements. Additional responsibilities include:
Schedule: Full-time, 37.5 hours, Monday - Friday, generally between the hours of 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Occasional evenings, weekends, holidays and recess periods may be required.
1. Strong knowledge of Epic functionality with ability to translate technical concepts into accessible, user-friendly training content. 2. Three years' experience in healthcare training, clinical education, or healthcare informatics, including at least one year of Epic training or support experience. 3. Excellent presentation and facilitation skills; ability to engage diverse audiences and adapt teaching approach to different learning styles. 4. Strong written communication skills with ability to create clear, concise, and visually effective training materials. 5. Patient, approachable demeanor with ability to support users of varying technical abilities; commitment to customer service excellence. 6. Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple training initiatives, coordinate logistics, and meet deadlines. 7. Understanding of clinical workflows and healthcare operations; ability to contextualize Epic training within real-world patient care scenarios. Preferred Skills and Abilities 1. Bachelor's or Master's degree in Nursing, Health Informatics, Education, or Instructional Design. 2. Epic certification in training or applicable clinical modules. 3. Proven experience with e-learning development tools (Articulate, Captivate, or similar). 4. Clinical background with direct patient care experience. 5. Proven experience in ambulatory care or academic medical center settings. 6. Certification in training or adult education (e.g., CPTM, ATD). Principal Responsibilities 1. Deliver learning and development programs through various modalities including instructor led classes, Webinars, eLearning, small group facilitation, 1:1 coaching, self-directed reference materials. 2. Apply instructional design (ADDIE) methodology when developing and delivering learning programs. Design eLearning outlines and storyboards as needed. 3. Build relationships with business unit leaders and managers when initiating the creation of a learning program and during the closure or follow up phase. 4. Analyze user needs and create proposals for new training programs or systems. 5. Apply project management skills to oversee timelines, key deliverables, and monitor risks during the development and implementation of a learning program. 6. Conduct on-site performance observations of business and operations to identify specific gaps in knowledge, skills, and behavior in the learning population. 7. Organize classroom schedules with facility and technical resources. Ensure program schedules and learner registration are setup and enrollment is monitored. 8. Collect feedback on training quality and delivery through evaluations and surveys, etc. Assimilate results, develop and report on key performance indicators (KPI). Develop and implement measures to address identified deficiencies and enhance the program. 9. In collaboration with the Epic Core Learning Program, provide classroom and occasional onsite training to end users on all Epic Practice Management applications and other applications or topics as needed.
