Chief Information Officer

Avoca Search has been exclusively retained by Graves Gilbert Clinic, a leading multi-specialty physician group in South Central Kentucky, to recruit a Chief Information Officer (CIO) to lead the organization’s technology strategy and operations. This is a highly visible executive leadership role responsible for advancing digital transformation, optimizing clinical and business systems, and ensuring that technology supports the delivery of exceptional patient care. 

Located in Bowling Green, Kentucky, Graves Gilbert Clinic has been serving the communities of South-Central Kentucky for 85 years. The independent practice has grown to over 200 providers representing 30 medical specialties across 30 locations. Founded in 1937, Graves Gilbert Clinic continues to be a leader in medical innovation and technology, making them a preferred provider of choice in the community. 

The CIO will serve as a key member of the senior leadership team and will be accountable for the strategic direction, implementation, and management of all information technology functions across the organization. This includes oversight of electronic medical records, infrastructure, cybersecurity, data analytics, and IT support services. A critical priority for this role is leveraging and optimizing the Athenahealth (Athena EMR) platform to enhance clinical workflows, revenue cycle performance, and overall operational efficiency. 

The successful candidate will bring deep experience with Athena EMR, including system optimization, integration, reporting, and user adoption. The CIO will partner closely with physician leaders, operational executives, and clinical teams to ensure the EMR and broader IT ecosystem effectively support care delivery, regulatory compliance, and organizational growth. This leader will also guide data strategy and analytics capabilities, enabling data-driven decision-making across the enterprise. In addition to strategic leadership, the CIO will oversee day-to-day IT operations, ensuring reliable system performance, strong cybersecurity posture, and high-quality end-user support. This role requires a leader who can balance long-term vision with operational execution while fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement within the IT team.

The ideal candidate will have proven experience as a CIO or senior IT leader within a healthcare or physician group setting, demonstrated expertise with Athena EMR, including optimization and integration with strong knowledge of healthcare IT systems, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and data analytics. Experience supporting ambulatory operations and multi-specialty physician practices is highly preferred with exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills combined with a strategic mindset and the ability to execute and deliver measurable results.
