| We're seeking a passionate, intellectually curious AP Psychology teacher who sees psychology as a powerful lens for understanding the human experience. You'll primarily teach AP Psychology while also contributing to our history and social studies curriculum across grades 9-12, working in a collaborative department that values rigorous inquiry, diverse perspectives, and student-centered learning.
This isn't a lecture-and-test job. You'll design engaging curriculum that brings psychological concepts to life, facilitate discussions about consciousness and culture, guide students through research methods and ethical questions, and help them see themselves as psychological thinkers - asking questions, analyzing evidence, and constructing evidence-based arguments about human behavior. Classification: Full-Time, 10-month position

Reports To: Upper School Division Head What You'll Do Inspire Psychological Thinking & Scientific Inquiry You'll teach 4 sections of courses (15-18 students each, 2-3 preps) designed to engage, challenge, and inspire students - with primary focus on AP Psychology. - Teach AP Psychology using inquiry-based, discussion-rich approaches that prepare students for the AP exam while fostering genuine understanding and curiosity about human behavior
- Design purposeful curriculum that connects psychological concepts to students' lived experiences and contemporary issues
- Teach history and/or social studies courses (grades 9-12) as part of your teaching load, bringing interdisciplinary connections and psychological perspectives to historical and social topics
- Use multi-modal instruction to reach diverse learners - discussions, experiments, case studies, primary research analysis, applications, debates, projects, and authentic assessments
- Create assessments that measure deep understanding, critical thinking, and scientific reasoning (not just memorization)
- Develop a classroom culture of belonging where all students feel intellectually challenged and personally valued
- Provide regular, timely feedback on student work that pushes thinking forward
- Communicate informatively with parents and write thoughtful mid-semester comments for every student
- Conduct afternoon tutorials (Monday-Thursday) and optional morning tutorials by appointment to support student learning
Mentor & Advise Students Beyond the classroom, you'll serve as an advisor to approximately 10 students, providing academic guidance, pastoral care, and daily connection. - Serve as primary academic advisor and point of contact for parents
- Lead daily advisory meetings to open the school day with your advisees
- Conduct mid-semester student-parent conferences to discuss progress and goals
- Attend assemblies and chapels with your advisory group each rotation
- Build meaningful relationships that help students navigate academic, social, and personal growth
Contribute to School Life Beyond the Classroom Lovett teachers don't just teach - they participate fully in our vibrant school community. - Engage in co-curricular activities: coach a sport, direct a play, sponsor a club, or take on other Upper School responsibilities
- Participate in faculty, department, team, and grade-level meetings to collaborate on curriculum, student support, and school initiatives
