Position Summary (Primary Function) The FBO General Manager position is responsible for management of all aspects of the Greenville-Spartanburg (GSP) Airport District Fixed Base Operations (FBO) and General Aviation Services Division including customer relations, line operations, accounting and health, safety and environmental functions. Responsibilities (Essential Functions) - Takes ownership responsibility for the General Aviation Services Division, ensuring compliance with all Airport District policies and applicable regulations – including State and Federal laws.
- Oversees all aspects of Parts 91, 125, 135 passenger and DLA flight support services including: line service, customer service, fuel sales, bulk hangar and office leases, customer retention, new business development, and quality assurance.
- Provides necessary leadership to enable the FBO to meet financial goals as established by the Airport District.
- Provides leadership in operational excellence and exceptional customer service.
- Interviews, hires and trains qualified, professional and courteous team members. Ensures proper staffing levels are maintained based on current operational volumes.
- Collaborates with the Airline Services General Manager to ensure the overall success of the Aviation Services Department and GSP Airport District.
- Establishes a culture of safety and quality through daily observation, shift briefings, ongoing training, safety meetings, regular audits and ensuring use of best practices.
- Reviews, develops and implements processes and procedures to ensure standardization of product and service delivery, quality assurance and effective inventory and financial controls.
- Assists in development of marketing concepts, programs and materials. Conducts sales and marketing visits to prospective customers. Represents the FBO at trade shows and through participation in professional organizations.
- Monitors and analyses market conditions, and industry trends and identifies growth opportunities, while maintaining market competitiveness.
- Develops and implements means, including regular personal interaction with customers and airport businesses, to measure customer satisfaction and to identify opportunities to improve processes and services.
- Responsible for Divisional P&L and financial planning including annual forecasting, capital planning and budgeting.
- Develops new business plans with capital requirements and anticipated performance. Develops internal operational and financial reports for measuring performance.
- Establishes a culture that promotes customer loyalty by creating an environment of increased employee engagement.
- Collaborates with the Commercial Business Department to educate and facilitate General Aviation sole use facilities contractual relations.
- Ensures employees receive company communications and necessary training including safety, customer service standards, Company values, etc. Ensures training and development of employees to improve work performance and maximize employee potential.
- Performs leadership functions such as conducting employee performance reviews making hiring decisions, and managing performance of direct reports, which includes mentoring, and skill development. Maintains good discipline and positive employee relations.
- Ensures monitoring and reporting of FBO facilities and equipment maintenance needs. Executes ground service equipment acquisitions.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education Requirements - Bachelor’s degree in Aviation Management or related field preferred.
Experience Requirements - 8 years or more of progressive experience in FBO management; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Must exhibit the desire to continue learning and stay abreast of changing industry trends, regulations and standards.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - FAA and TSA regulations as well as South Carolina Code of Laws affecting airport operations.
- Proficiency in the use of a personal computer is necessary, including skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Windows.
- Entrepreneurship, business and operations management, sales and marketing, basic finance and analysis, customer service.
- Leadership, multi-tasking, negotiation, excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Supervisory Responsibility - Supervision of two to three direct reports and fifteen or more indirect reports.
Licenses Required - Valid Driver’s License.
- Must be able to secure and maintain GSP Airfield driver privileges.
Certifications Required (Must have or be willing and able to obtain) - NATA Line Service Supervision & Training Management certification.
- Fuel Quality Control Training from a nationally recognized fuel provider.
Latitude/Independent Judgment/Accuracy - Diligence must be exercised when handling confidential information.
- Reasonable care for equipment/processes will prevent safety incidents and security breaches.
- Responsible for own work but must coordinate work with others.
- Business decisions for the FBO could have substantial monetary effect on the Airport District.
Working Conditions - Physical Demand - Use of personal protective equipment is required where appropriate. Exposed to heat, cold, rain and snow in a noisy environment. Must possess the ability to perform strenuous physical activities such as lifting passenger bags, engage in sustained physical exertion and perform arduous work under adverse conditions and maintain physical fitness pertinent to the work.
- Mental and/or Visual Demand - Mental and visual demands are high and vary with function performed. Consistent mental attention needed to respond safely and efficiently.
- Attentiveness to work procedures will reduce potential risk of injury in work areas.
- Specific vision abilities include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, and depth perception. This employee is required to have the visual acuity to analyze data and figures, operate a computer terminal.
- Exposed to normal office environment and normal aviation environment.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
- Subject to recall after normal duty hours.
Other Requirements - Must be able to complete and pass a background investigation, drug screening, and physical examination as per Federal, State, and GSP Airport District requirements.
