Head Coach Women's Soccer
Job Description Summary: The Head Women’s Soccer Coach is responsible for the strategic leadership, competitive success, and operational management of a competitive NCAA Division III soccer program. The position is accountable for sustaining championship-level performance, recruiting and developing high-caliber student-athletes, and fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement. The Head Coach is evaluated annually based on competitive outcomes, program leadership, recruitment effectiveness, student-athlete development, compliance, and operational execution.
Minimum Qualifications: - A minimum of 3 years of collegiate soccer coaching experience that includes soccer instruction, program administration, and recruiting.
- Demonstrated experience leading teams to conference championships, NCAA tournament participation, or equivalent national-level competition.
- Demonstrated ability to organize, operate, and sustain a highly competitive collegiate athletic program, while motivating and mentoring student-athletes to achieve peak individual and team performance.
- Working knowledge of comprehensive program administration, including budget management, team travel logistics and expenditures, inventory oversight (equipment, uniforms, training tools), practice and competition scheduling, fundraising strategies, academic progress monitoring, alumni relations, and compliance with NCAA, SCIAC, and University policies.
- Ability to stay current with and effectively integrate emerging coaching and performance technologies, including video analysis, data analytics, and sport-specific computing systems, into daily program operations and competitive preparation.
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, personnel, and high-pressure situations in a fast-paced, results-driven environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to inclusive leadership and effective communication across diverse populations, including but not limited to race, gender, sexual identity, physical ability, socioeconomic background, and religious perspectives.
- Ability to travel extensively and work a flexible, nontraditional schedule, including evenings, weekends, and extended periods during recruitment and competitive seasons.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of student-athlete, personnel, and program records and information.
- Proficiency in personal computers and software applications, including Microsoft Office Suite and sport-specific platforms (e.g., Hudl, Spiideo, or equivalent performance and recruiting systems).
- Ability to accurately maintain professional records and documentation, both electronic and paper, using appropriate grammar, organization, and documentation standards
Preferred Qualifications: - Master’s degree.
- NCAA Division III coaching experience.
- NCAA head coaching experience.
Specific Duties: Duty:
TEAM LEADERSHIP and MANAGEMENT
- Lead, inspire, and mentor student-athletes in all aspects of soccer, fostering a competitive, disciplined, and positive team environment.
- Implement strategies to ensure team cohesion, individual development, and a commitment to the values of sportsmanship and academic achievement.
- Enforce team rules, promote a culture of accountability, and provide guidance on both athletic and personal matters.
Percentage of Time: 15%
Duty:
STAFF and ADMINISTRATIVE LEADERSHIP
- Hire, supervise, and mentor assistant coaches and support staff, promoting professional development and collaborative teamwork.
- Ensure effective communication and operational coordination within the coaching staff and athletic department.
- Manage administrative duties related to the soccer program, including scheduling, travel arrangements, budgeting, and compliance with institutional/departmental policies.
Percentage of Time: 15%
Duty:
RECRUITMENT and PLAYER DEVELOPMENT
- Lead the recruitment efforts for the soccer program, identifying and attracting high-potential student-athletes (5-7 per year) who align with the institution’s academic and athletic standards.
- Cultivate a supportive and inclusive environment for athletes to succeed academically, socially, and athletically.
- Foster the holistic development of student-athletes, balancing academic responsibilities with athletic commitments.
Percentage of Time: 20%
Duty:
COACHING and GAME STRATEGY
- Develop and execute comprehensive coaching strategies, including daily practice plans, team drills, and in-game tactical adjustments.
- Analyze team and opponent performance to inform strategic decisions, ensuring continuous improvement.
- Provide individualized coaching to athletes, focusing on skill development, technique refinement, and soccer EQ enhancement.
Percentage of Time: 20%
Duty:
ACADEMIC OVERSIGHT
- Work closely with academic advisors to ensure student-athletes meet their academic responsibilities and maintain eligibility.
- Monitor academic progress and provide support to student-athletes, ensuring a commitment to academic excellence and the successful completion of their degree programs.
- Promote the integration of athletics and academics, fostering an environment where student-athletes thrive in both arenas.
Percentage of Time: 10%
Duty:
BUDGET MANAGEMENT and OVERSIGHT
- Manage and oversee the soccer program’s annual budget, ensuring financial resources are allocated appropriately across coaching, facilities, equipment, recruitment, and travel.
- Collaborate with the athletic department’s administrative team to ensure compliance with budgetary guidelines and institutional/departmental financial policies.
- Monitor expenditures to ensure the program stays within budget and works efficiently with available resources.
- Identify and pursue funding opportunities, including donations, sponsorships, and fundraising events, to enhance the financial sustainability of the program.
Percentage of Time: 5%
Duty:
GAME and EVENT MANAGEMENT
- Oversee the preparation and execution of game-day operations, ensuring athletes are physically and mentally prepared.
- Represent the soccer program at home and away competitions, maintaining professionalism and fostering team spirit.
- Make critical in-game decisions and provide leadership during high-pressure situations.
- Supervision of field set-up and breakdown, as needed.

Duty:
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT and MEDIA RELATIONS
- Serve as the primary ambassador for the soccer program, representing the team at public events, media interviews, and community outreach programs.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with alumni, donors, sponsors, and local community partners.
- Promote the soccer program through strategic public relations initiatives and engagement with media outlets.
Percentage of Time: 5%
Duty:
COMPLIANCE and INSTITUTIONAL ALIGNMENT
- Ensure compliance with NCAA regulations, institutional policies, and ethical standards.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of recruitment guidelines, eligibility requirements, and other regulations relevant to the soccer program.
- Work closely with the athletic administration to align the soccer program’s goals with the broader mission and values of the institution.
- Abide by and comply with National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and SCIAC rules, academic standards, requirements, and policies of the University, and all guidelines and policies of the Athletics department and reports any concerns of compromise or violation of rules, standards, guidelines or policies to the Director of Athletics, Deputy Director, or the Compliance & Student Services Manager.
Duty: Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics or a designee assigned by the Director of Athletics.
