| We are hiring several immediate full-time histotechnician and histotechnologist positions for a new practice. The work environment is a dermatologic surgery and pathology laboratory supporting Mohs micrographic surgery in Manhattan. This is a fast-paced surgical environment that requires high accuracy and attention to specimen handling, as well as the ability to stand for extended periods and work with laboratory equipment and biological specimens. Positions are in-office and full-time, but we are willing to review per diem candidates as well. Please specify the per diem request in your cover letter. These are day shifts, but all employees are scheduled to rotate nights and weekends as well. All roles have an excellent benefits package.

Histotechnologist/Histotechnician Responsibilities: Prepares histologic slide from tissue sections for microscopic examination and diagnosis by pathologists. Operates computerized laboratory equipment to fix, dehydrate, and infiltrate with wax tissue specimens to be preserved for study by pathologists. Prepares slides of specimens, using the specified stain, to enhance visibility under the microscope. Prepares and maintains all necessary reagents, including stains, alcohols, and paraffins, in accordance with proper inspection procedures. Examine the slides under the microscope to ensure that the tissue preparation meets laboratory requirements. May study slides under a microscope to detect deviations from the norm and report abnormalities for further study. Process specimen accessioning, including all manual and computerized data entry. Maintains laboratory, equipment, and accurate records of quality assurance control. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Education - Histotechnician: AA degree from a NYSED-registered histological technician program, OR an associate’s degree with specific science coursework and clinical experience in a histology program. Minimum Education for Histotechnologist: Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or related Sciences, Master's preferred Minimum Related Experience: Histology or Pathology experience Licensing Requirements: NYS Clinical Laboratory Technician or Technologist, or NYS Histological Technician or Technologist license Pathology Assistant Responsibilities: Receives specimens for diagnostic purposes, ensuring that the label, container, and requisition match completely Describes the specimen by completely utilizing color, size (3–dimensional), shape, and any other characteristic necessary for proper evaluation of the specimen. Enters all required histologic information based on the referring physician’s notes into the computer application. Ensure accountability of each specimen grossed Retrieves biopsy specimen containers for quality control issues Collates bottles according to procedures for storage purposes Maintains the cleanliness and organization of the grossing areas Learns new procedures as required Performs other related duties Minimum Education: Associate degree with at least 60 credits in Science or Bachelor of Science with biology and anatomy credits, and three years of experience in macroscopic descriptions and handling of tiny biopsies. OR Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience in macroscopic descriptions and handling of tiny biopsies OR Pathologists’ Assistant license approved by New York State, or meet New York State standards as a pathology assistant with at least 1 year of experience in macroscopic descriptions and handling of tiny biopsies. Minimum Related Experience: One year of experience in macroscopic descriptions and handling biopsies and larger specimens |
Additional Salary Information: Based on experience, credentials, and scope of responsibilities, roles are as follows. Mohs Tech I - experience in a surgical-based practice or lab preferred. $50,000–$74,000 Mohs Tech II - minimum of 6 years experience in a surgical-based practice or lab. $54,000–$81,000 Lab Operations Manager (HTL license required) - minimum of 5 years experience; at least 2 years of lab operations and supervisory experience preferred. $95,000–$158,000
