Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Instructor

North Idaho College Workforce Training Center is seeking an experienced and safety-focused professional to join our team as a Commercial Driver's License Instructor. This hands-on role helps prepare the next generation of commercial drivers through practical, real-world training that builds confidence, skill, and professionalism behind the wheel.

CDL Instructors provide behind-the-wheel, range, backing, and proficiency instruction for students pursuing their Commercial Driver's License. Instructors coach students through pre-trip inspections, vehicle maneuvering, road driving, and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Entry Level Driver Training requirements while evaluating student progress and providing meaningful feedback throughout the program. This role also supports curriculum updates, maintains accurate student records and training documentation, and helps ensure vehicles and equipment are operated safely and maintained appropriately.

We are looking for someone with strong commercial driving knowledge, patience, professionalism, and a passion for teaching others. Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to communicate clearly, adapt instruction to different learning styles, and remain calm and supportive in high-pressure situations. The ideal candidate values safety, accountability, and student success while preparing students for both their Idaho state skills test and long-term success in the trucking industry.

Minimum Qualifications
Three years full-time experience as a professional Class A truck driver, operating a Class A Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) within the last 10 years required.

Required License and/or Certifications:
¢ Must possess and maintain a current and valid Class A CDL
o As an operator of Class A equipment must be able to pass Department of Transportation (DOT) drug tests at pre-employment and on an ongoing basis
¢ Must possess and maintain a current and valid DOT medical card
¢ Clean driving record with no violations in the last three years

Starting pay range: $44,548 - $53,458

Work Site Location: Parker Technical Education, Rathdrum
Work Schedule: Works a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends as needed, to satisfy student training needs
