![]() Monterey Peninsula College Temporary Pool - Fire Academy Training Assistant Salary: $25.00 - $35.00 Hourly Job Type: Temporary Job Number: 2023-00014 Closing: Continuous Location: Public Safety Training Center, CA Division: Public Safety Training Center Description Monterey Peninsula College's fire Academy, established in 2002, offers quality training to those who want to become firefighters. Fire Academy training assistants are needed during wildland, ventilation, live fire, and other training activities to support the lead faculty member in ensuring academy students are performing tasks in a safe and proper way. Temporary employees are occasionally needed for substitute assignment. Example of Duties Under the leadership of the MPC Fire Protection Technology Coordinator and the Associate Dean of Career Education, the Fire Academy Training Assistant is responsible for providing support to the Fire Academy lead faculty during wildland, ventilation, live fire, and other training/testing activities, supporting safe and proper practices by academy students. Demonstrate an understanding of, sensitivity to and appreciation for, the academic, ethnic, socio-economic, disability and gender diversity of students and staff attending or working on a community college campus. Qualifications Ability to: work effectively with a wide variety of personalities and situations requiring diplomacy, tact, friendliness, poise and firmness; demonstrate skills associated with the job in assigned subject area; communicate satisfactorily in both oral and written form; establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties. Knowledge of: the skills and abilities relevant to the area as needed to fulfill requirements of the job. Minimum Qualifications

PHYSICAL EFFORT/WORK ENVIRONMENT: Heavy physical effort, which may include frequent standing, walking, and lifting or moving of heavy objects up to 100 pounds, working from ladders up to 35'. Frequent activities requiring full body exertion. Indoor/outdoor work environment with some exposure to weather extremes.
