| 10-Month, Full-Time Position | Summer Hourly Stipend Immediate Supervisor: Director of Athletics, Assistant Head of School and/or Business & Finance Director Position Summary The School Health Coordinator serves as the primary on-campus healthcare provider and wellness coordinator for the school community. This role combines the responsibilities of a Certified Athletic Trainer and School Health Coordinator to oversee daily student health services, emergency care, athletic healthcare, injury prevention, wellness education, and communicable disease management for students. The School Health Coordinator supports the mission and philosophy of the school by providing comprehensive health and wellness services during the academic day and throughout athletic programming. This position serves as the central liaison among students, families, faculty, healthcare providers, and administrators regarding student health and safety. Primary Responsibilities Student Health & Wellness Services - Operate and oversee the daily functions of the Health Room/Training Room.
- Assess and triage student and faculty illnesses, injuries, and health-related concerns during the school day.
- Provide emergency care and first response for acute illness, injury, and medical emergencies.
- Administer medications and maintain accurate medication logs and health records.
- Create, collect, and maintain student health forms, immunization records, and emergency action documentation. All records and documentation must be managed in the school’s online health database.
- Maintain and communicate allergy, asthma, diabetes, seizure, and other chronic condition action plans.
- Monitor communicable illnesses and serve as liaison with local and state health departments when necessary.
- Notify school administration of communicable disease concerns and health-related emergencies.
- Maintain health room supplies, first aid inventory, AEDs, emergency equipment, and medical documentation systems.
- Create and maintain accident and incident reports.
- Coordinate student wellness initiatives and health education programming.
- Collaborate with counselors, faculty, and administrators to support student health and wellness needs.
- Support students with temporary or ongoing medical accommodations during the school day.
- Perform routine health screenings and checks as needed.
- Organize and distribute medications and medical information for field trips and school travel.
- Serve as a resource for parents and faculty regarding student health concerns and medical procedures.
Athletic Training Responsibilities - Provide athletic training coverage for afternoon practices, home competitions, and select away contests.
- Evaluate athletic injuries and develop treatment and rehabilitation plans for student-athletes.
- Maintain accurate injury documentation and rehabilitation records.
- Coordinate return-to-play protocols for injured student-athletes.
- Serve as a member of the school’s Concussion Management Team.
- Develop and implement Emergency Action Plans for athletics and school events.
- Monitor weather and environmental safety conditions, including lightning detection systems and heat illness protocols.
- Communicate regularly with physicians, parents, coaches, and healthcare providers regarding injuries and treatment plans.
- Educate students and teams on injury prevention, nutrition, hydration, stretching, strength training, and overall wellness.
- Assist with athletic event preparation, including hydration, emergency equipment, field setup, and sideline safety.
- Maintain athletic training room equipment, supplies, inventory, and departmental budget.
- Coordinate CPR/AED certification and compliance for faculty, coaches, and athletic staff.
- Stay current with evidence-based practices in sports medicine and student healthcare.
School Leadership & Community Responsibilities - Support the school mission, values, and community culture.
- Collaborate closely with administrators, faculty, coaches, counselors, and families.
- Assist with administrative oversight of athletic events when needed.
- Maintain confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA, FERPA, and school policies.
- Promote an inclusive and supportive environment for students and families of all backgrounds.
- Participate in school meetings, professional development, and community events.
- Perform other duties as assigned by school administration.
