We are seeking a Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of WellSpan Medical Group’s Service Line to co-lead the strategy, operations, and performance of our medical group service lines in partnership with the Chief Medical Officer. WellSpan has ten service lines including Surgery, Medicine, Women’s & Children’s, Primary Care, Orthopedics, Neurology, Behavioral Health, Heart and Vascular, Oncology, and Diagnostics. This executive will play a critical role in advancing a highly integrated model of care, strengthening service line performance across the continuum, and driving continued growth, access, and quality. Partnering closely with physician leadership, the COO will help shape the future of care delivery across a broad portfolio that includes hospital based and ambulatory services. The organization is supported by strong population health capabilities, an established graduate medical education program, and a new medical school campus currently under development. Key Responsibilities Serves as a key executive leader responsible for the strategic, operational, and financial performance of WellSpan Medical Group's (WMG) service lines. Ensures services are integrated and coordinated to deliver high-quality patient care, improve operational efficiency, and support organizational growth. Collaborates with executive leaders, physicians, Advanced Practice Providers and external partners to advance initiatives that enhance patient experience, strengthen team member engagement, improve health outcomes, and position WellSpan Health/WMG as a market leader. Strategic Leadership: - Develops and implements strategic plans for service lines in alignment with WellSpan Health’s mission, vision, and goals with a focus on growth of market share, financial stability, and care redesign.
- Identifies and pursues opportunities for growth, including new service lines, new services, practice acquisitions, and strategic partnerships.
- Leads the development and execution of operational strategies to improve service delivery, patient access, facility strategies, and care coordination.
- Oversee the integration of clinical and non-clinical services to ensure seamless patient care and operational efficiency.
Operational Management: - Ensures efficient and effective operation of all service lines, including staffing, budgeting, resource allocation, and performance management.
- Implements best practices and operational standards to optimize productivity, reduce costs, and enhance the quality of care.
- Develops and monitors key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure success and drive continuous improvement.
- Oversee the implementation of technology solutions to support clinical operations, patient access, and provider productivity.
Financial Oversight: - Directs budget strategy and performance across all service lines to ensure financial strength, sustainability, and growth.
- Rigorously monitors financial performance, identifies opportunities to improve margin and efficiency, and drives corrective action as needed.
- Partners with finance to develop financial reports, forecasts, and business cases that inform investment and strategic decision-making.
Quality and Safety: - Ensures the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care across all service lines.
- Implements quality improvement initiatives and patient safety programs to enhance clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction using Lean tools.
- Monitors compliance with regulatory requirements and accreditation standards.
Leadership and Team Development: - Provides visionary leadership and mentorship to service line dyads, directors, managers, and staff.
- Fosters a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous learning.
- Promotes professional development opportunities and succession planning to build a strong leadership pipeline.
- Leads efforts to improve team member engagement, satisfaction, and retention.
Stakeholder Engagement: - Builds and maintains strong relationships with medical staff, regional SVPs, hospital leadership, community partners, and other stakeholders.
- Represents the medical group in various forums, including community events, industry conferences, and professional associations.
- Communicates effectively with internal and external stakeholders to promote WellSpan Health’s vision, goals, and achievements.
Qualifications Include: - Master's Degree in healthcare administration, business administration, or a related field required.
- At least ten years’ progressive leadership experience in healthcare administration, with a focus on service line management and operations required.
- Proven track record of driving strategic initiatives, improving operational efficiency, and achieving financial goals.
- Experience in managing large, multi-specialty medical groups or healthcare systems.
