 About the position: 
 Bay Ridge Prep, a progressive, student-centered, K-12 independent school located in Brooklyn, New York, seeks an outstanding educator to join its Upper School Arts Department to teach courses in visual arts and related classes. The successful candidate will have the skills and experience necessary to effectively teach students with a range of learning profiles and will have an understanding of multiple intelligences and differentiated instruction. Applicants must also demonstrate effective classroom management skills in a learning environment that emphasizes problem solving, effective oral and written communication, collaboration and leadership, intrinsic motivation, cultivation of initiative and persistence, and the ability to effectively access and analyze information.&#xa0;  This is a ten-month, full-time, in-person position that follows the school&#8217;s academic calendar.&#xa0; Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8 am to 4 pm; faculty meetings occur on Wednesdays from 2:50 pm to 3:30 pm.&#xa0; Evening and occasional weekend work may be required and will be scheduled in advance. Responsibilities may include attendance at parent-teacher conferences, arts showcases, exhibitions, performances, and other school-related programs and activities. Qualifications:&#xa0; 
 
 Previous teaching experience in high school education in independent and/or public schools strongly preferred 
 Bachelor&#39;s Degree from an accredited college or university (Masters Degree strongly preferred) 
 NYS certification a plus 
 Strong knowledge of art history (ancient art, modern, and contemporary artists) as well as in their specialized field 
 Strong knowledge of studio art (painting, drawing, sculpture, collage, printmaking, ceramics)&#xa0; 
 
 
 Excellent verbal and written communications skills and is highly organized and self-directed 
 
 &#xa0; 
 Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: 
 
 Establishing a creative environment to stimulate and promote innovative ideas encouraging risk taking, experimentation, and critical thinking 
 Utilizing a wide range of artistic media to cultivate student curiosity, creative thinking and confidence. 
 Developing and implementing lesson plans in drawing, painting, sculpture 
 Integrating art history, multicultural content and other subjects into lesson plans 
 Differentiating instruction in the classroom 
 Installing, labeling and updating art exhibits of student artwork 
 Assisting with musical and theatrical productions (set design/building and prop construction) 
 Guiding students with college art portfolio preparation 
 Participating in weekly school division and art department meetings&#xa0; 
 Supporting and facilitating in-school and after school activities such as open houses, clubs and community arts events 
 Serve as Co-Advisor of the National Art Honor Society (NAHS), collaborating in the oversight of student membership, meetings, service initiatives, exhibitions, and leadership development activities. 
 Interest in an interdisciplinary approach to art education and the ability to effectively collaborate with colleagues and administration regarding teaching and learning&#xa0; 
 Communicating with parents/guardians about student progress 
 Committing to the social, emotional and cognitive needs of all students 
 Being fully immersed in the culture of the school and contributing   to the growth of the arts department and school community.
