 POSITION SUMMARY 
 The Business Office team advances the mission of The Hotchkiss School by delivering accurate, timely financial services and thoughtful stewardship of institutional resources, while providing exceptional support to the school community. 
 The Senior Financial Analyst plays a key strategic role in shaping the School&#8217;s long-term financial sustainability and decision-making. This position leads the development of integrated multi-year financial models, drives scenario planning, and provides data-driven insights to support senior leadership and the Board of Trustees. The Analyst partners across departments&#8212;including Admissions, Advancement, Academics, and Facilities&#8212;to align financial planning with institutional priorities such as enrollment strategy, tuition and financial aid, fundraising, and capital investments. 
 In addition to leading the annual budgeting process and ongoing forecasting, the Senior Financial Analyst monitors financial performance, identifies risks and trends, and recommends strategic adjustments. The role is responsible for producing clear, comprehensive financial reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders, and for supporting key initiatives of the CFOO. 
 This position also contributes to effective Business Office operations, supports compliance with endowment and donor restrictions, and helps translate financial information into actionable insights for department leaders. The Senior Financial Analyst brings a forward-looking perspective, incorporating best practices, benchmarking, and innovative approaches to strengthen the School&#8217;s financial planning and operations. The business office team is committed to advancing the mission of the School by providing accurate and timely financial services, with exceptional customer support for the School community, while acting as a steward of the School&#8217;s resources. 
 The Hotchkiss School is located in Lakeville, CT, and is within commuting distance from Torrington, CT; Great Barrington, MA; and Millbrook, NY. The Senior Financial Analyst will work in the office.  ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES: 
 
 Lead the development and maintenance of integrated multi-year financial models (5- and 10-year outlooks) aligned with the School&#8217;s strategic plan. 
 Build dynamic scenario analyses to assess the impact of enrollment trends, tuition strategy, financial aid, staffing, and capital investments, and evaluate trade-offs across revenue, expenses, and capital allocation. 
 Provide data-driven recommendations to support strategic decisions, including tuition setting, financial aid budget, and program expansion. 
 Develop comprehensive monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including budget-to-actual analysis, for the CFOO, Head of School, senior leadership, and Board of Trustees. 
 Work with Admissions, Advancement, and Academic departments to develop financial models related to enrollment, financial aid, and fundraising initiatives. 
 Partner with the Director of Facilities to maintain and model a 10-year plan for capital projects and deferred maintenance, ensuring alignment with the School&#8217;s long-range financial model. 
 Lead the annual budgeting process, including maintaining a zero-based budgeting approach and managing the annual request and approval workflow. 
 Collaborate with department heads and chairs to gather input, support budget development, and help them understand, manage, and plan against their budgets. 
 Maintain budget templates and oversee tracking of budget-to-actual performance across departments. 
 Develop rolling forecasts, monitor financial performance, and analyze variances, risks, and emerging trends; recommend adjustments based on changing assumptions and current-year performance. 
 Report overspending of endowment funds to the CFOO and Head of School. 
 Partner with Advancement to support both financial modeling and clear articulation of how donor funds are utilized. 
 Support the Business Office in ensuring smooth daily operations, including accurate financial reporting, expense tracking. 
 Assist in preparation of materials for and record Trustee Committee meeting minutes for Audit &#38; Risk, Finance, Investment, and Buildings &#38; Grounds. 
 Proactively bring insights from benchmarking, webinars, and professional networks to recommend improvements and new approaches. 
 SKILLS &#38; EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: 
 
 Bachelor&#8217;s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field, with 7&#8211;10 years of progressive experience in financial planning and analysis, strategic finance, or a related discipline. 
 Advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., CFA) preferred. 
 Demonstrated expertise in building and maintaining complex, integrated financial models, including multi-year projections and scenario analysis 
 Strong experience in budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning within a complex organization. 
 Proven ability to translate financial data into clear, actionable insights and recommendations that influence senior leadership decision-making. 
 Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills, with the ability to evaluate trade-offs and assess long-term financial sustainability. 
 Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex financial concepts to both financial and non-financial audiences, including senior leadership and the Board. 
 High level of initiative, intellectual curiosity, and a proactive approach to identifying opportunities for improvement, innovation, and operational efficiency. 
 Exceptional organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

 The Director of Gift Planning will be a seasoned gift officer who will bring intelligence, humor, ambition, warmth, and a persuasive understanding of planned giving to the role. Reporting to the Executive Director of Leadership Giving, the Director of Gift Planning will be a player/coach and will oversee a portfolio of current and prospective donors. Immersing themselves in ongoing education, the Director of Gift Planning will serve as the in-house expert on gift planning vehicles and the many benefits of deferred gifts, and lead a comprehensive marketing and gift planning outreach program.  Experience working with wealthy, philanthropic individuals and their advisors. 
 Experience with charitable giving mechanisms and estate planning vehicles. 
 Exceptional interpersonal, organizational, and communications skills, including prospect management, written and oral presentation, and volunteer and staff coordination. 
 Self-motivated and possessing a demonstrated ability to articulate planned giving concepts and strategies with credibility to a diverse constituency. 
 Must be able to travel regularly and work flexible hours, when needed, including weekends and evenings.

 SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: 
 
 Bachelor&#8217;s degree required. 
 Seven to ten years of previous fundraising experience, preferably in secondary or higher education. 
 Experience developing and implementing donor-centric programs, communications, and events. 
 Experience working with wealthy, philanthropic individuals and their advisors. 
 Experience with charitable giving mechanisms and estate planning vehicles. 
 Exceptional interpersonal, organizational, and communications skills, including prospect management, written and oral presentation, and volunteer and staff coordination. 
 Self-motivated and possessing a demonstrated ability to articulate planned giving concepts and strategies with credibility to a diverse constituency. 
 Must be able to travel regularly and work flexible hours, when needed, including weekends and evenings. 
 Proficiency in G-Suite, PG Calc, Raiser&#8217;s Edge/NXT or similar fundraising software, and Microsoft Office. 
 
 PHYSICAL CONDITIONS: 
 
 Office environment. 
 At events, a significant amount of time standing/walking. 
 Repetitive (keyboard) motion.

 SUMMARY 
 Reporting to the Director of Finance/Controller, the Accounting Manager / Controller is a hands-on finance professional who brings energy, initiative, and innovation to a complex boarding school environment. This role oversees the day-to-day accounting operations, ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial records, and supports financial sustainability. They will play a key role in managing the general ledger, supervising/supporting accounting staff, contributing to audits and compliance, and leading continual improvement of systems and processes, including budget management and financial reporting.

Serving as a resource to departments across campus, this individual partners closely with budget holders to provide insight, tools, and guidance that promote sound financial decision-making and stewardship. 
 The ideal candidate has experience in a senior accounting role, preferably in an independent school or nonprofit, excels in both operational execution and process design, and is committed to fostering a welcoming and supportive environment for all interactions with the Business Office. 
 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 
 
 General Ledger Management : Maintenance and ownership of the accuracy of the general ledger and month-end, quarter, and year-end close processes. Review and manage journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance investigations. Set up and manage GL accounts, funds, projects, and events as needed. 
 Financial Operations &#38; Treasury Support : Ownership of cash flow forecasting and daily treasury operations. Approve wire transfers, ACH transactions, and payment templates. Provide oversight and support for purchasing and inventory processes in collaboration with relevant departments. 
 Financial Audit and Form 990 Preparation Support : Assist in coordinating and preparing for the annual audit, ensuring timely completion of all audit schedules and supporting documentation. Assist with IRS Form 990 preparation, state filings, and other compliance reporting. Help ensure strong internal controls are in place and functioning effectively. 
 Gift and Fund Management:  Support monthly reconciliation of charitable giving gifts, monitor the endowment tracking system (e.g., Fundriver), and manage the due to/from activity between operating cash and endowment. Oversee the quarterly reconciliations of Charitable Remainder Trusts, Pooled Investment Funds. 
 Programmatic Support:  Coordinate and work with staff accountants regarding auxiliary programs, student travel activities, and employee and student credit/debit card transactions. 
 Process Improvement and System Integrations : Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and support the implementation of system enhancements. Support the implementation of new financial technologies and reporting tools. Ensure accuracy between financial systems, such as the general ledger, credit cards, employee reimbursements, and procurement. 
 Internal Policies and Compliance:  Contribute to the creation and refinement of internal policies and procedures. Provide training and guidance to ensure school-wide compliance. 
 Team Supervision and Development:  Supervise and support the 5-member accounting and purchasing team. Provide training, performance feedback, and mentorship to support professional growth. Foster a collaborative and accountable culture within the business office. 
 Perform additional duties  as assigned by the Director of Finance/Controller. 
 QUALIFICATIONS: 
 
 Bachelor&#8217;s degree in Accounting is highly preferred. 
 Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in an independent school environment and/or in non-profit accounting. 
 Prior supervisory experience with a demonstrated ability to lead and develop a team. 
 Strong working knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards. 
 Impeccable attention to detail and accuracy. 
 Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders to build rapport and trust. 
 Demonstrated ability to think analytically and strategically, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously, prioritizing appropriately. 
 Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., SAGE Intacct, Great Plains, or similar), Excel, and reporting tools. 
 Commitment to the values of a boarding school environment, including discretion, collaboration, and service orientation. 
 
 PHYSICAL CONDITIONS: 
 
 Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. 
 Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times (e.g., files, boxes, office supplies).
