This position is responsible for the comprehensive management, coordination, and delivery of sports medicine services for the university&#8217;s football program. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with team physicians, strength and conditioning staff, coaches, and athletics administration to provide exceptional healthcare and injury prevention services for student-athletes.

This is a full-time, 12-month position reporting to the Associate Athletic Director for Sports Medicine.

SALARY: $3,750 - $4,084 per month commensurate with experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Serve as the primary athletic trainer for the Division I football program.
Coordinate and provide prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and return-to-play protocols for football student-athletes.
Manage daily athletic training room operations for football, including injury documentation and medical record maintenance.
Coordinate care with team physicians and outside medical providers.
Travel with the football team to practices, competitions, postseason events, and training camps as required.
Supervise and mentor assistant athletic trainers assigned to football.
Collaborate with strength and conditioning staff regarding injury prevention.
Ensure compliance with NCAA, conference, institutional, and departmental policies and procedures.
Maintain appropriate medical supplies, equipment, and inventory management.
Participate in departmental meetings, continuing education, and other administrative duties as assigned.

Specific Responsibilities

Assistant Director Duties

Under the guidance of the Director, communicate regularly with Coaches and Athletics staff regarding scheduling, AT hours, injury reports, travel, coverage, etc. 

With the Director, establish and maintain work schedules, coordinate staff meetings, and establish priority of daily and weekly tasks. 

Supervision of  interns/GA&#8217;s and Part time Athletic Trainers, including communicating  expectations and the evaluation of performance. 

Serve as the primary administrator for the DrugFree Sport program, managing scheduling, collection protocols, and educational outreach.

Assist in the recruiting, hiring, training, and formal evaluation of assistant athletic trainers, graduate assistants, and student interns.

Provides tactical and operational support for all Athletic Training functions 

Oversee and supervision of all work study students including approving hours, scheduling and ensuring work study are following all rules and assignments 

Use electronic medical records system to log all injuries, treatments, and pertinent information (EMR Teamworks)  point person for medical information software 

Responsible for purchase of and inventory of all ATR supplies and equipment

Oversight of department wide trainings and compliance, including Blood borne pathogens training, CPR training, EAPs, etc.

Athletic Trainer Duties

Recommend, fit and apply braces, splints and assistive devices to facilitate the patient recovery. 

Assess the patient&#39;s functional status, interpret the results and determine ability to return to activity. 

Recognize the role of medications in the recovery process. Provide patient education necessary to facilitate recovery.

Perform a comprehensive examination of the patient with an orthopedic injury or medical condition (e.g., medical history, physical examination, differential diagnosis, and referral). 

Communicate the nature of examination and treatment plan to patient and other involved health care personnel, respecting the privacy of the patient. 

 Obtain and interpret environmental (e.g., ambient temperature, relative humidity, heat index, lightning) and patient data (e.g., hydration status) to make appropriate recommendations for patient safety and the continuance or suspension of activity. 

Inspect facilities to ensure they are free of hazards, are sanitary, and that equipment is maintained properly.  

Educate and train coaches and administrators on the Emergency Action Plan. Provide mental health education for prevention and care. Assist the athletic department administration in Alcohol, Smoking, and Other Drug (ATOD) education for student-athletes.

 Implement appropriate emergency injury and illness management strategies following a pre-established emergency action plan (e.g., CPR, AED, splinting, use of spine board, control of bleeding, control of body temperature, use of epinephrine for anaphylaxis, etc.). 

Sport coverage oversight and game coverage

Injury management of athletes

Maintain strict adherence to the philosophy and objectives of the Athletics Department, Adams State University, the RMAC, and NCAA regulations.

Maintain BOC certification in good standing and pursue continuing education to remain current with sports medicine best practices.

Qualifications

Ability to perform the requirements of the position.

Master&#8217;s degree in Athletic Training  from an accredited institution of higher education 

Minimum of 2 years of professional athletic training experience, with a strong preference for candidates who have managed collegiate-level programs or specific team operations. 

Certification and good standing with the National Athletic Trainer&#8217;s Board of Certification.

Eligible for licensure or current license for the state of Colorado 

Sensitivity and discretion regarding student-athlete issues

Demonstrated experience in sports medicine administration, including the use of Electronic Medical Records (EMR), inventory management, and departmental scheduling. 

Advanced proficiency in professional software suites (Google Workspace) and specialized sports medicine data platforms. 

Proven ability to work independently, prioritize, and complete tasks in a timely manner.

Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written  communication skills with the ability to tailor communication to both internal and external stakeholders.  

Proven ability to prioritize competing organizational demands, manage high-volume clinical workflows, and lead complex team assignments with minimal supervision. 

Mastery of conflict management techniques to resolve disagreements productively and foster a culture of respect, civility, and collegiate collaboration. 

Current First Aid/CPR Certification

Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a diverse environment and a commitment to providing equitable care to a multi-cultural student-athlete population.

 Accountabilities: 
 Reporting directly to the Director of Strength and Conditioning, this position will be responsible for women&#8217;s basketball and other men&#8217;s and women&#8217;s contact and non-contact sports. This includes ensuring a safe and effective working environment in the varsity weight room, strength and conditioning program development and implementation for assigned sports, and working closely with the sports medicine program within university, conference, and  NCAA  rules and regulations. The Assistant Coach is required to maintain active certifications from the National Strength and Conditioning Association and/or Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Association, as well as demonstrate expertise of sport-specific training methodologies and a commitment, including but not limited to: effective program planning, periodization, competitive strategy, and student-athlete management. The Assistant Coach will be accountable for the execution of specific strategic activities and outcomes within the assigned sport(s) or area(s). These will include sustained performance, execution, and commitment to development in the following: Ensuring training philosophies are approved by the Director of Strength and Conditioning The use of independent discretion and judgment in creating strength and conditioning programs for assigned sports programs Instructing student-athletes in proper and safe weight training techniques, plyometrics, speed development drills, conditioning exercises, and agility movements that are current and scientifically valid Effectively communicating and collaborating with a diverse population of student-athletes, coaches and staff Responsible for overall strength and conditioning program development, execution, and instruction as it pertains to student-athlete sport performance and physical well-being including: Program development based on sport specificity, seasonality and competitive strategy, progressive instruction, and acclimation, sports nutrition education and counseling, and injury rehabilitation programming and instruction Unchallengeable authority for all strength and conditioning programming and implementation including timing, frequency, type and volume to promote safe and effective performance of student-athletes.  Professional Experience/Qualifications 
 Prior coaching, graduate assistant, or intern experience in a collegiate strength and conditioning setting. Strong work ethic and excellent communication skills are required. 

 Preferred Qualifications 
 Master&#8217;s degree in Exercise Science, Health, Physical Education, or related field. Two years of coaching at the collegiate level. Strong background in teaching or coaching ground-based movements. 

 Education 
 Bachelor&#8217;s degree in Exercise Science, Health, Physical Education, or related field is required.
