 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
 
 Provide quality comprehensive care for student-athletes through prevention, evaluation, care and treatment of injuries and illnesses, and assist with injury rehabilitation using established protocols for injury/illness referral, treatment, rehabilitation and return to play. 
 Attend all home athletic contests as required for the purpose of providing training services prior to, during, and after events and games for both the home and visiting teams. 
 Conduct regular office hours, providing services to student-athletes prior to, during and following practices. 
 Ensure that all documentation is complete to ensure compliance with all NJCAA regulations. 
 Manage and arrange (when needed) physicals for student-athletes and teams. 
 Maintain medical records of injuries, treatment and care.&#xa0; 
 Provide a comprehensive Concussion Protocol. 
 Work directly with Sauk Valley Community College&#8217;s athletic insurance provider.&#xa0; 
 Oversee and maintain athletic training room and equipment. 
 Communicate regularly with athletic/coaching staff regarding care and treatment of injuries. 
 Instruct 1-2 sections of PED 213 (First Aid) per semester or other coursework (credit or non-credit) as assigned, including virtually or remote offerings, as deemed necessary by the administration. 
 Provide coverage for the Sauk Valley Community College Fitness Center. 
 Serve as Home Event Administration at athletic contests when Athletic Director is not present. 
 Involvement in college wellness events, become a member or of the Wellness Committee and participate in any college wellness initiatives. 
 Provide workshops or other initiatives to increase campus support of students (e.g., CPR Training). 
 Aid the coaching staff in the construction and implementation of injury prevention programs. 
 Manage home events including, but not limited to: creating program guides, managing live streams, playing the National Anthem, and facilitating score bench personnel. Set up water and other event specific supplies for home and away events. 
 Assist in scheduling events, reserving rooms, and distributing promotional information throughout the College which includes, but is not limited to event contracts, officials&#39; contracts, and contacting officials prior to contests. 
 Work with the director in hiring, training, assigning, and supervising College work-studies. 
 Assist with maintaining the athletic website. 
 Maintain, update and monitor sport-specific social media accounts. 
 Provide leadership to curriculum development for PED Courses. 
 Provide direct instruction and assessment of student learning for PED Courses. 
 Assume all other reasonable professional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.

 Clinical Duties
 
 Assessment, management, rehabilitation, and prevention of athletic injuries for assigned teams.
 Medical documentation of injuries and illnesses in compliance with federal and state regulations.
 Provide medical coverage for practices and contests.

Position Summary

Cosumnes River College is seeking a faculty member to serve as Athletic Coordinator and Assistant Professor of Kinesiology &#38; Athletics.



As Athletic Coordinator, the faculty member reports to the Dean of Kinesiology, Health, Athletics, and the Athletic Director and coordinates sports information operations for the athletic department. Responsibilities include official statistics, athletics content on the department&#8217;s official website, livestreaming of assigned home events, publicity and promotion of the college athletic programs, and preparation of announcements, news releases, and publications related to athletics. These communications may be distributed through the college athletics website, email, mail, or approved social media platforms. All athletic communications will be coordinated with College Public Information Officer (PIO), through the Athletic Director to ensure alignment with college and district communication standards. The position also assists with game management of hosted home athletic events.



The faculty member shall be responsible for the following: teaching assigned classes under the supervision of the area dean; helping students fulfil their maximum potential in mastering course content; assessing student learning outcomes; maintaining a thorough and up-to-date knowledge in their regular teaching field; continuing professional development; utilizing current technology in the performance of job duties; maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the profession; assisting with articulation and curriculum development and review; serving on college committees and participating in faculty governance including accreditation and student co-curricular activities; assuming other responsibilities as assigned by the area dean; fulfilling other duties and responsibilities of a full-time faculty member as outlined in the college handbook. The department curriculum includes Kinesiology Associate Degree for transfer, fitness courses, individual and team activity courses, adapted fitness courses, and intercollegiate athletic courses. The position will also lead the development of a Sports Information academic pathway, including coursework, certificates, and experiential learning opportunities that integrate students into live game-day athletic operations.



The Athletic Coordinator will also play a key role in developing a student-centered Sports Information program that integrates classroom instruction with real-time athletics communications operations. Students enrolled in Sports Information courses may gain applied experience through participation in live statistics, broadcasting, digital media production, sports journalism, and game-day communications associated with Cosumnes River College athletics. The position will help mentor and supervise students participating in these experiential learning opportunities as part of their academic program.



The proportion of duties assigned to coordination and instruction shall be determined by student, department, and program needs, and may range from 0% to 100% for either function.

Sports Information, Media Relations &#38; Communications (80%)

Coordinator Assignment

&#8226; Coordinate all sports information operations, including the writing, editing, graphic design, and production of media guides, programs, brochures, press releases, feature stories, and digital publications.

&#8226; Serve as the primary media contact for the athletics department under the direction of the Athletic Director, coordinating with the College PIO to release information on game results, statistics, schedules, rankings, postseason competition, and student-athlete recognition. Media engagement related to broader college or district matters (such as budgets, college or district strategic initiatives, or issues extending beyond athletic coverage) will be coordinated with the College PIO in consultation with the Athletic Director.

&#8226; Schedule and coordinate interviews between coaches, student-athletes, and media representatives.

&#8226; Coordinate and mentor students participating in athletics communications, statistics, broadcasting, and digital media production as part of experiential learning or academic coursework.

Assistant Professor of Kinesiology &#38; Athletics (20%)

Instructional Assignment

The instructional portion of this assignment includes teaching courses within the Kinesiology and Athletics area and leading the development of a new Sports Information academic pathway, including courses, certificates, and potential degree programs. The faculty will integrate classroom instruction with hands-on experiential learning opportunities connected to Cosumnes River College intercollegiate athletics. Students in Sports Information courses will gain real-world experience through supervised participation in game-day statistics, media relations, digital content creation, broadcasting, and athletics communications activities.



Responsibilities include:

&#8226; Designing curriculum for Sports Information and Sports Management, including new courses, certificates, and potential degree pathways aligned with athletics communications and media industry standards.

&#8226; Coordinating student participation in athletics communications and game-day operations to ensure experiential learning opportunities align with course learning outcomes.

&#8226; Teaching Sports Management and Sports Information courses and providing academic leadership for the program.

&#8226; Teaching additional Kinesiology, Fitness, Personal Activity, Team Activity, Adapted Physical Education or related courses based on departmental needs.

&#8226; Integrating supervised, hands-on practicum experiences connected to intercollegiate athletic events, providing students with real-world experience in statistics, game operations, sports communications, and digital media production.

Minimum Qualifications

&#8226; Master&#8217;s degree in kinesiology, physical education, exercise science, education with an emphasis in physical education, kinesiology, physiology of exercise or adaptive physical education OR Bachelor&#8217;s degree in any of the above and Master&#8217;s degree in any life science, dance, physiology, health education, recreation administration or physical therapy OR the equivalent.  All degrees must be from an accredited institution completed by August 1, 2026.

-Responsible for all aspects of Regis College concussion management plan, including annual policy review, baseline testing, including but not limited to neuropsychological testing.  

-Serve as key member of risk management team for Athletics Department. Advises coaching staff, athletic administration on the safety and sanitary condition of locker room, practice, and competition facilities and sites.

-Evaluate and treat all athletically related injuries, including the use of emergency medical equipment (splinting, AED, airway devices, oxygen, etc.) and make appropriate determination of injury status and referrals to emergency medical care or physicians as appropriate.  Consults with physicians, student-health services, coaches, parents, student-athletes regarding health status. 

-Design and implement pre-season and off-season rehabilitation programs and injury prevention programming based on perceived need and injury trends.

-Supervise, maintain and make recommendations regarding the athletic training facilities and equipment, including the purchasing of all athletic training supplies and equipment within allocated budget parameters.

-Works with the Regis College Health Services to evaluate and / or treat those students referred, including referrals to the Center for Health and Wellness for illnesses, eating disorders, diabetes, asthma, and psychological disorders.

-Develop a relationship with area physicians and other allied health professionals to provide complete medical care to student athletes, including maintaining a relationship with a designated team physician.

-Serve as the Department liaison with the representatives from the College health insurance plan, campus health center, and Center for Student Services office including coordinating intercollegiate athletic injury claims.

-Assist with the drug and alcohol prevention program, including the NCAA drug test protocol when necessary.

-Ensure compliance with OSHA, HIPPA, and other standards relative to sports medicine procedures and the operation of the athletic training room.

-Recruit, instruct, supervise and evaluate support staff, e.g. interns, athletic training students, other assistants, per diems, both through the college work-study program as well as area NATABOC programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Manage daily athletic training room operations for football, including injury documentation and medical record maintenance.
Coordinate care with team physicians and outside medical providers.
Travel with the football team to practices, competitions, postseason events, and training camps as required.
Supervise and mentor assistant athletic trainers assigned to football.
Collaborate with strength and conditioning staff regarding injury prevention.
Ensure compliance with NCAA, conference, institutional, and departmental policies and procedures.
Maintain appropriate medical supplies, equipment, and inventory management.
Participate in departmental meetings, continuing education, and other administrative duties as assigned.

Specific Responsibilities

Assistant Director Duties

Under the guidance of the Director, communicate regularly with Coaches and Athletics staff regarding scheduling, AT hours, injury reports, travel, coverage, etc. 

With the Director, establish and maintain work schedules, coordinate staff meetings, and establish priority of daily and weekly tasks. 

Supervision of  interns/GA&#8217;s and Part time Athletic Trainers, including communicating  expectations and the evaluation of performance. 

Serve as the primary administrator for the DrugFree Sport program, managing scheduling, collection protocols, and educational outreach.

Assist in the recruiting, hiring, training, and formal evaluation of assistant athletic trainers, graduate assistants, and student interns.

Provides tactical and operational support for all Athletic Training functions 

Oversee and supervision of all work study students including approving hours, scheduling and ensuring work study are following all rules and assignments 

Use electronic medical records system to log all injuries, treatments, and pertinent information (EMR Teamworks)  point person for medical information software 

Responsible for purchase of and inventory of all ATR supplies and equipment

Oversight of department wide trainings and compliance, including Blood borne pathogens training, CPR training, EAPs, etc.

Athletic Trainer Duties

Recommend, fit and apply braces, splints and assistive devices to facilitate the patient recovery. 

Assess the patient&#39;s functional status, interpret the results and determine ability to return to activity. 

Recognize the role of medications in the recovery process. Provide patient education necessary to facilitate recovery.

Perform a comprehensive examination of the patient with an orthopedic injury or medical condition (e.g., medical history, physical examination, differential diagnosis, and referral). 

Communicate the nature of examination and treatment plan to patient and other involved health care personnel, respecting the privacy of the patient. 

 Obtain and interpret environmental (e.g., ambient temperature, relative humidity, heat index, lightning) and patient data (e.g., hydration status) to make appropriate recommendations for patient safety and the continuance or suspension of activity. 

Inspect facilities to ensure they are free of hazards, are sanitary, and that equipment is maintained properly.  

Educate and train coaches and administrators on the Emergency Action Plan. Provide mental health education for prevention and care. Assist the athletic department administration in Alcohol, Smoking, and Other Drug (ATOD) education for student-athletes.

 Implement appropriate emergency injury and illness management strategies following a pre-established emergency action plan (e.g., CPR, AED, splinting, use of spine board, control of bleeding, control of body temperature, use of epinephrine for anaphylaxis, etc.). 

Sport coverage oversight and game coverage

Injury management of athletes

Maintain strict adherence to the philosophy and objectives of the Athletics Department, Adams State University, the RMAC, and NCAA regulations.

Maintain BOC certification in good standing and pursue continuing education to remain current with sports medicine best practices.

Qualifications

Ability to perform the requirements of the position.

Master&#8217;s degree in Athletic Training  from an accredited institution of higher education 

Minimum of 2 years of professional athletic training experience, with a strong preference for candidates who have managed collegiate-level programs or specific team operations. 

Certification and good standing with the National Athletic Trainer&#8217;s Board of Certification.

Eligible for licensure or current license for the state of Colorado 

Sensitivity and discretion regarding student-athlete issues

Demonstrated experience in sports medicine administration, including the use of Electronic Medical Records (EMR), inventory management, and departmental scheduling. 

Advanced proficiency in professional software suites (Google Workspace) and specialized sports medicine data platforms.
