Learn more about the UC Office of the President Position Summary The University of California Office of the General Counsel (UC Legal), Health Affairs, Privacy & Data Protection (HAPDP) Group offers a two-year, full-time fellowship for a recent graduate of an accredited law school who is interested in pursuing a career in one of its core practice areas: health law, privacy, and data protection. We seek candidates with a strong academic record, excellent written and verbal communication skills, a demonstrated commitment to advancing the legal profession, and the ability to think creatively. Preference will be given to applicants who have demonstrated interest in or prior experience with health affairs-including regulatory and transactional matters-as well as privacy, data protection, or cybersecurity. Under the supervision of UC Legal HAPDP attorneys, the Fellow will conduct legal research, draft memoranda and other documents, and, when appropriate, attend client meetings, hearings, and negotiations. The Fellow will also participate in activities designed to provide exposure to both the practice of law and the substantive work of the HAPDP group. Within the HAPDP practice, the Fellow will work on matters involving hospital operations, health care transactions, reimbursement and regulatory compliance, fraud and abuse, internal investigations, medical staff, peer review, medical faculty disciplinary matters, privacy, data protection, and cybersecurity. The Fellow will also have the opportunity to collaborate with attorneys both within UC Legal and across UC campuses and medical centers. Key Responsibilities

Travel Requirements 5% Infrequent professional job-related conferences. SPECIAL CONDITIONS This position has been approved for a hybrid work arrangement. The person hired must reside in California and will be required to report to work on-site at UC's Office of the President located in Oakland, CA at least two days per week. SALARY AND BENEFITS Job Title: Counsel 1 Job Code: 005948 Salary Grade: Grade 23 Payscale: $105,000 - $110,000 annual, commensurate with experience The University of California, Office of the President, is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
