GENERAL JOB SUMMARY: Under minimal supervision, the instructor is responsible for fostering student learning of Automotive Technology in a ASE certified program of study. Teaching assignment may include hands-on and lecture classes related to general automotive servicing to specific automotive systems. Candidate should have strong mechanical skills and the ability to effectively manage groups of students working on individual hands-on assignments. Teaching may also include teaching courses outside the program-specific assignment (e.g. related math). Teaching assignments may be located at multiple Kirkwood campuses. This position requires strong organizational and communication skills, the ability to effectively deliver practical hands-on instruction, team-teaching skills, curriculum development skills, and familiarity with all aspects of the automotive servicing industry. Must evaluate, record, and report student achievement and progress in assigned courses in accordance with department, division and college policies and procedures. Must be on department committees, and maintain relationships with automotive repair organizations and businesses. The instructor will be responsible for meeting the goals and objectives of an individual Professional Preparation Plan as outlined in the College's Quality Faculty Plan. UNIVERSAL CORE COMPETENCIES:

Position involves occasional (10-33%) sitting and constant (67-100%) standing in a classroom/laboratory setting. Constant (67-100%) reaching, walking, lifting, dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, repetitive motions, and viewing various types of visual work, and perceiving attributes of objects such as size, shape, temperature or texture. Frequent (34-66%) stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling, carrying, and visualizing three-dimensions from a two-dimensional medium. Exerting up to 50-100 pounds occasionally. May travel to other on-campus facilities, off-campus facilities and agencies to teach, attend meetings, etc. |
